OUR GOAL

Shingon Online Learning Resources

In Japanese esoteric Buddhism, many lay practitioners begin with practices that are widely accessible and commonly transmitted.

Esoteric Buddhist teachings may be broadly understood through different categories and historical systems. Among them are practices associated with Kriyā Tantra, sometimes described as “Mixed Esoteric Buddhism,” as well as later systems of “Pure Esoteric Buddhism” that became especially influential in Japan.

The early founders of Shingon Buddhism and pioneers of Shugendō drew upon ritual traditions that emphasized practical spiritual cultivation, protection, healing, and responses to the needs of everyday life.

Many of these practices have relatively accessible entry requirements and can provide practitioners with a practical foundation in Buddhist ritual, discipline, and devotional cultivation.

By comparison, advanced esoteric practices often require formal empowerment, known in Japanese as kanjō, as well as direct oral instruction and guidance from a qualified teacher. These requirements exist to protect the integrity of the teachings and to ensure that practitioners follow the path safely and correctly.

Today, however, many sincere practitioners are unable to locate qualified teachers or access structured learning resources.

For this reason, we aim to establish a dedicated online learning platform that introduces Shingon esoteric Buddhism in a systematic, responsible, and accurate manner.

The platform will provide foundational educational resources for practitioners while clearly distinguishing between practices that may be studied publicly and teachings that require formal empowerment or direct transmission.

By building a strong foundation step by step, we hope to help both lay practitioners and monastics approach the path of Shingon Buddhism with greater clarity, safety, respect, and confidence.
